“What is a Domain Name?”
Your domain name is the address that people type into a web browser to access your web site.
From the technical side of things, a domain name is the text name corresponding to the numeric IP address of a computer on the Internet. Although your web site is actually located at a computer that is registered on the internet by a long numeric code called an “IP Address”, we use Domain Names to make it easier for people to locate your site.
It’s much easier to remember that you can do an internet search from www.google.com, rather than trying to memorize their IP Address, “72.14.207.99”.
“What is DNS?”
On the Internet, the Domain Name System (DNS) serves as the “phone book” for the Internet: it translates your human-readable domain names into the IP addresses that networking equipment needs for delivering information.
DNS Records hold the information to link your web address to the web server, your email address to the email server, and so on for all internet services associated with your domain name.
If ePageCity manages your domain name(s) and associated DNS records, you may need to contact us to make necessary changes from time to time.
“How do I change my DNS?”
If you need a change to your domain or DNS records, please email support@epagecity.com with detailed information regarding the change that needs to be made. We will respond to all requests within 1 business day, and are available to make scheduled DNS changes during normal business hours, 8am-5pm Monday-Friday.
In the event that a change needs to be made after-hours, contact ePageCity during our normal hours so that we can schedule this change for you. Please note that a service fee may apply.
“Does ePageCity Manage my Domain?”
If you are not sure whether ePageCity manages your domain name, you can find out by contacting us, or by doing a WHOIS lookup.
To do a WHOIS Lookup:
- Go to a WHOIS lookup site, such as http://www.whoisd.com/
- Type in your domain name and verification code, if required
- Click “Go”
- If your information is listed as “Owner of Record at ePageCity”, then ePageCity is the manager of your domain.
“Why isn’t my name on the Domain Record?”
Because ePageCity does its best to prevent hijacking of domain names, when renewing or registering a domain name, ePageCity will list the owner of the domain as “Owner of Record” and list ePageCity’s business address as the address of record. This action will in no way alter the ownership and thus, ePageCity confirms that you will remain the owner of said domain name.
